Dear Cane, Thank you for reading my article and leaving a comment. I see that you are not very fond of mythology, and that is fine, mythological stories do appear to be contradictory and irrational as you mentioned. Despite that, these stories have survived for many centuries, so there must be something in them that keeps us spellbound to them. In case if you are curious on why people are attracted to such stories you can read the works of Carl Jung or Joseph Campbell. You will then truly understand mythology.

Now coming to believing in one God. One of the biggest confusion that people have about Hindus is that people think they are polytheistic. As has always been said, judge a thing only when you have completely understood it. Please read Hindu texts (Bhagavad Gita, Upanishads and the Vedas) and then decide. These scriptures are not for a faint of heart and a dumb mind. Western philosophers are little children when compared with Indian Philosophy. Monotheism is “been there done that” in India. We go way beyond it.

Modern sciences are now challenging the Judeo-Christian-Islamic beliefs, but they cannot challenge Dharmic religions of India. So as people will become more and more educated they will end find solace in the Dharmic religious ideas. So my advice to you will be, please do not preach your religion to others unless asked for. It is a very personal thing and let us leave it at that. If someone comes to you with a problem then you can help them through your religion, but the bigotry of thinking that your concept of God is better than that of the other, only causes bloodshed and misery in this world.
